Worst things to give out for Halloween

Photobucket

So today I was in the Halloween mood. I was trying to figure out what candy I would be handing out to the trick or treaters this year. Last year I had Twix and Snickers. I let the visitors pick which candy they wanted. I thought to myself, why don’t I come up with a list of the worst things to give out (from my experience in no particular order!). Tell me what you think. Should I added something else or is there something that should not be on my list? J

1.  Not giving out candy
Halloween is all about giving candy to the kids. Nothing is worse than people that hide in their dark houses from trick or treaters.

2.  Candy Buttons
A typical bites consists of 75% candy, 25% paper.

3.  Money
It may seem exciting to get money, but you end up getting a few pennies or a nickel. You cannot buy much with that nowadays.

4.  Pop Corn

Now I am not talking about the popcorn ball (that is okay). I am talking about the pop corn you pop in the microwave. Most people always have that in the cupboards already, so it is not a treat.

5.  Kids Meal Toys

Yes, people have actually given those out before. When I went trick or treating once (awhile ago), that is what I got. Creative? Yes. Did I want that? No.

6.  The wrong season of candy

I am talking about candy canes from Christmas, or jelly beans from Easter. How long have you had that in your pantry?

7.  Almond Joys
Now I know from experience when I was a kid. My friends and I hated the almond joys. Coconut is a taste not all kids enjoy.

8.  Fruit
       Need I say more?

LOL at number five! My father in law did that last year. I don't think the neighborhood kids were too pleased. :)

Have a great weekend!

I guess I'm a bad guy! I've been out at neighborhood events with no one home to pass out candy. I also encourage people to give out something other than candy..it sets the wrong stage for fun. I do cross the line at giving out toothbrushes though. I thought kids meal toys were a great idea..thrifty too. Just think those things were saved all year long!
Now giving out Easter or Christmas candy, that's something my mother would do. (So maybe its not my fault!)

Add to the list Sun Chips. Last year I gave out candy bars and for the people who couldn't tolerate chocolate purchased a variety bag of chips to give away, and let me tell you no one not even the adults would take those sun chips. I was stuck with them, cause heck even me and the dog didn't like them :)I am your newest GFC follower and would love if you dropped by my blog at kittycrochettwo.blogspot.com.

Love the blog & the post. I'm a new follower. I have a hard time with candy at Halloween. Mostly because I have absolutely no will power and I end up eating it as I give it out! Ha! But you are right, candy is the best for trick-or-treaters. And brand name candy is even better. I hate getting the old, stale hard candy. Yuck!

Don't give out tootsie pops and similar very cheap candies, I don't know any kid who likes those.

But I do like almond joys and so does my kid!

Also received many chocolates which went completely white, meaning they were super old. Who would do that??? Sick people.

Jen M... I will take all your tootsie pops!

I love this post. I buy a whole bunch of tootsie rolls hoping the kids won't take them. :) Then I am stuck eating tootsie rolls. Darn. hee hee.
